Dear Jon H,

good idea to open a dedicated forum to 1855 victims. As a matter of fact I try not to repeat previous mistakes, so I placed no further order with 1855. Since then I have ordered quite a few times with London merchant www.bordeauxindex.com. All my experiences were nothing short of excellent. Especially noteworthy is my last experience: unluckily in a sending of 12 high class bordeaux cases one showed signs of heat damage. Bordeauxindex agreed to exchange all cases at no cost. The wine will not be reintroduced in sale but used as private directors reserve. Although this is the way it should be, in the internet world of fast money this is the exception rather than the rule. Plese note that I have no financial interest in supporting any wine merchant. I simply want to help serious wine lovers find serious and reliable wine merchants. Best, Dr.Klaus Hebold

Dear Dr. Resnick,

I got the money back without any comment. My letter remanied unanswered. It seems that 1855.com is well aware of their way of understanding business. Serious wine lovers should take this as a warning. In contrast to 1855.com I made excellent experience with bordeauxindex.com, more than once. I have no financial interest in supporting any wine merchant.

Best, Dr.Klaus Hebold

Dear Dr. Resnick,

Thank you for replying. I am shocked to hear what you said about "1855.com", I had hoped to be an exception. Today I adressed a personal letter to the CEO of 1855.com, Mr Sauty de Chalon. If you allow, I will post his response - if there should be any- on this blog site.

All the best, Dr. Klaus Hebold

Hello, Dr. Hebold

I'm not surprised by the problem you had with 1855.com. A lot of their customers had the same complaint as you did. 1855.com very often sell wine they don't have in stock, collect the money and don't deliver the bottles.

This kind of unprofessional behavior is very unfortunate for the reputation of other on line wine stores that do their work honestly, selling only wines they have in stock and respecting their customers.

Best,
Dr. Evelyne Resnick

Dr. Klaus Hebold, Cologne, Germany.

I want to advise that buying via internet can be a very disappointing and frustrating experience. In Mai 2008 I bought and payed in advance one case of Magnums Lynch Bages 2000 with "1855.com". After the contract was closed and the money transferred, the company upped the price for the wine and denied delivery. The company obviously had sold a wine they did not own. No compensation was offered. Delivery of 1 case of normal bottles Lynch Bages 2000 instead - then still in stock and offered in the internet - was denied. The company announced unilaterally to reimburse the money but refused to comply with the contract.
